Gold Coast is the home to the iconic Surfer’s Paradise, the gateway to Australia’s favourite theme parks and a brilliant spot for a break. Hire a car and pick it up when you arrive at Gold Coast Airport or after you’ve arrive downtown Gold Coast. If you need to get from the airport to the city it is about a 20 kilometre ride, and could set you back more than $50 AUD. Some hotels have shuttles and there is some public transport too. With a cheap rental car the Southern part of Queensland is your playground, you can go inland top the Gold Coast Hinterland and check out the caves and their resident glowworms at Springbrook national park or head down the coast to Coolangatta which features both great surfing and child friendly bays. You can even drive to Byron Bay, which is only around an hour’s drive but a world away from the Gold Coast vibe. You could also head into Brisbane city, about a 90 minute drive from the Gold Coast for a change of scene.
