Darwin is a colourful city with a beautiful harbour and a chequered past. From its close proximity to the mysteries of the Kakadu National Park and Katherine, to its historical significance as it was attacked in World War II, Darwin is a hub of cultural significance to Australia. Hire a car or 4WD so you can take advantage of all there is to see and do here in the capital city of the Northern Territory or, as it is known in Australia, the Top End. Due to the seemingly endless expanses of unique red desert and the often-searing tropical climate, really the only way to see the rest of what the Top End has to offer is to drive and you can rent a cheap car in Darwin or at Darwin Airport. From there you can experience the outback desert, the thermal springs of Katherine and the rainforests of the Kakadu National Park. If you are really eager you can take a trip all the way to the majestic Uluru/Ayers Rock, or you can rent a car in Alice Springs.
In a town like Darwin, where the harbour brings in new characters and new influences every day, but where the culture and history is so deeply embedded in the landscape, days exploring the outback and nights moving from pub to pub (and yarn to yarn) await for you and your rental car.
