Renting a vehicle from Thrifty is relatively easy for anyone over the age of 21 (although it should be noted that individuals under the age of 25 may be charged a daily surcharge to cover the additional cost of higher insurance premiums). Thrifty calculates their rates based on 24 hour rental basis which begins the same hour the vehicle is picked up. If a vehicle is returned late the customer will be charged for the additional time based on a proportionate percentage of the daily rate.
If you choose to return the vehicle more than 24 hours before the scheduled return time a change fee of $15 is applicable. If you choose to rent a vehicle for longer than 24 hours after the scheduled return time that a return change fee of at least $10.99 per day will be applied on top of the standard rental rate.
Thrifty offers vehicles that have unlimited mileage caps and vehicles that have mileage caps of about 150 miles per day, with the latter being cheaper. Thus, if you are not planning on driving more than 150 miles per day it may be wiser to simply rent a vehicle that has a mileage cap, as this will allow you to save between $3 and $7 per day. Some customers have recently had problems with being charged for damages that they did not cause and were not covered by the conventional insurance policy included with the car service. In order to provide protection for such charges Thrifty offers excess reduction insurance, which reduces the liability of the customer to only a couple hundred dollars. However, excess reduction can cost as much as $40 per day, and is found to be unnecessary in many cases.
