Following New York, other American cities such as San Francisco and Washington, D.C., will unveil more electric cars under the Hertz agency. Hertz has also partnered with Penske Automotive, the distributor of the Smart ForTwo minicar as well as a Smart ForTwo electric car. This collaboration will enable Hertz to include the Smart Electric Drive into its fleet along with the 2011 Nissan Leaf, 2010 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid prototypes, and the 2011 Coda Sedan.
Hertz also has plans to add more electric vehicles from the likes of General Motors, the maker of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, and Mitsubishi, manufacturer of the 2012 electric “i” minicar. As new electric models are rolled out in the coming years, Hertz has indicated their interest in adding them to their expanding list of electric cars.
The new line of electric car rentals is aimed at urban drivers, university students, tourists, and travellers. Hertz will add electric vehicles into their international fleets over the next year and a half.
